Most people have heard the adage, “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.” There is rarely reward without risk, and relationships are no exception. When we open ourselves to potential friendships, we receive joy, support, companionship, and love.
On the other side of the coin, relationships can cause hurt and heartache. If we have burned a friend in the past, we may want to avoid that risk.
Because God designed us for the fellowship of friendship, we can trust Him with the risks involved in opening our hearts to others. There is no need to fear the pain that can occur because God will help us through the rough waters of our relationships.
Consider opening your heart and home to the possibility of friendship with these ideas.
- Serve in the church nursery or Sunday school.
- Invite your colleagues to read and discuss your weekly lunchtime devotions.
- Sign up for a small group at church or offer to host a small group at your home.
- Call someone and ask them to join you on your next shopping spree.
- Bake some cookies and invite your neighbors over for tea.
- Ask someone to have lunch with you after church.
