For Adekunle Gold, the initiative is deeply personal. Having lived with sickle cell disease since childhood, he understands both the physical and financial challenges associated with the illness. He explained that the foundation’s mission is to ease the burden on patients and provide the

Although Adekunle Gold is widely celebrated for his success in music, the singer is also making a powerful impact in healthcare through his foundation’s ongoing support for people living with sickle cell disorder.

During its latest quarterly outreach programme in Lagos, the Adekunle Gold Foundation delivered essential medical assistance to more than 400 individuals affected by the condition. Working in partnership with the Sickle Cell Advocacy & Management Initiative (SAM-I), the programme offered extensive healthcare services designed to improve both treatment access and long-term patient care.

The outreach extended far beyond routine medical consultations. Patients received blood transfusions for severe anemia, emergency care for pain crises, laboratory tests, and specialist medical evaluations aimed at monitoring complications linked to sickle cell disease. Physiotherapy sessions were also provided to help manage bone and joint problems commonly experienced by patients.

To ensure continued treatment after the programme ended, beneficiaries were also given a three-month supply of important maintenance medications.

The outreach comes at a critical time, as Nigeria continues to carry one of the world’s highest sickle cell disease burdens. Despite the growing number of affected individuals, the condition still receives limited global attention and funding.

The Adekunle Gold Foundation has continued expanding its healthcare efforts following the success of its 2025 “5 Star Care” initiative, which provided free health insurance coverage for 1,000 people. In collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), the organisation is working toward improving healthcare access for vulnerable communities.

Beyond Nigeria, the foundation has also partnered with researchers at New York University’s Department of Global Health to explore innovative treatment options and strategies that could improve the quality of life for sickle cell patients worldwide.

Through a combination of direct medical support, healthcare reform initiatives, and international research partnerships, Adekunle Gold continues to use his platform to advocate for and support people living with sickle cell disease.
