The Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League are going all out. Or you’re trying your best. bear — in the latest Teddy Beatos uniform.
On Monday, Nov. 27, the Oil Kings announced the costumes they will wear at the 2023 edition of their annual Teddy Beatos Game, to be held on Friday, Dec. 1. Even the shells of the jerseys, socks and pants are covered in sublimated prints featuring stuffed animals. Animals of all shapes, sizes and colors. The Teddy Bear Toss game has become a staple of junior hockey across Canada leading up to the Christmas season. When the home team scores the first goal of the game, fans are encouraged to throw teddy bears onto the ice, where they are collected and donated to underprivileged children through local charities.
The Oil Kings held their first Teddy Bear Toss Game on January 20, 2008. Since then, fans have donated 146,930 of his stuffed animals and he has donated more than $187,000. Anonymous Santa, a local Christmas children’s charity. The record number of bears donated was 16,491 in 2019-20.
